INO wins 2021 Arts Award in Leadership
Every year, Spokane Arts celebrates the best in the region with their annual Arts Awards. With community members nominating their favorite local organizations and arts leaders, the Arts Awards are split into four different categories: leadership, collaboration, imagination, and inclusion.
Inland Northwest Opera is honored to be included amongst the list of incredible people and organizations nominated for the 2021 Leadership Award. Find out more about the other nominees in the video below:
On September 18, Spokane Arts announced the winners of each category – Leadership Award: Inland Northwest Opera; Collaboration Award: Darrien Mack; Inclusion Award: Stage Left Theater; Imagination Award: Kate Lebo. Below are the kind words from the Spokane Arts announcement:
INO was a key advocate for performing arts in Washington state, petitioning Governor Inslee to find ways to include performing arts in re-opening plans. INO also worked quickly and tirelessly to find new creative ways to safely bring music to the region. Starting with Opera Grams in the summer of 2020, they spent 2021 building an Opera Truck to serve as a mobile concert stage and hosted free performances in parks and neighborhoods. As INO’s General and Artistic director Dawn Wolski says in the Leadership Nominee video, “Our mission is to bring beauty and joy and incredible music to the entire Northwest, so how we did that changed a bit but why we do it and what we’re doing hasn’t changed at all. When people couldn’t come to us in the theaters, we came to them.”
Congrats to all of the winners and nominees honored for this award! Find out more about the annual Arts Awards and nominees here.
