Juneteenth, otherwise known as Emancipation Day, is an American holiday which celebrates the emancipation of enslaved individuals in the United States. It is celebrated on June 19, originating on June 19, 1865, following the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union General Gordon Granger, proclaiming freedom for all slaves in Texas.
